the ai is doing science now
we spent two years arguing about whether ai can write a decent email and meanwhile it quietly started doing drug discovery.
anthropic launched claude science — protein structures, drug discovery workflows, the works — and hired john jumper, the guy who won a nobel for alphafold. google's alphaevolve cut dna sequencing error detection by 30%. this isn't "summarize this pdf" anymore. this is "find the molecule."
i build crud apps with these models. someone else is folding proteins with them. same tools, wildly different stakes. makes my little side projects feel adorable.
but this is the part of ai i actually get excited about. not the chatbots. the "solve the thing humans have been stuck on for decades" part. that one i'll allow.
